The somerset levels
Did you catch a glimpse of the glorious sunshine yesterday? Did you feel her warmth on your face? A micro-dose of Vitamin D and a macro dose of joy.
We travelled across the flood-swamped plains of the Somerset Levels to a couple of our favourite nature spots. I always feel awe when driving out of Wedmore - whatever the weather, the views across the levels are always magical, and yesterday the floods were spectacular.
These moments immersed in nature are times for my phone to sit quietly in my bag, whilst my presence with the children, my real camera, and of course the binos are called for.
It wasn’t the best day for birding because we were only able to access one hide due to flooding - wellies wouldn’t have done - you needed waders!
But it was incredibly beautiful. Not only to absorb the rays of the sun, but also to listen to the birdsong, to spy signs of emerging Spring, like tiny buds appearing on branches, green shoots - I have noticed cleavers (AKA sticky weed) is already growing well! So it will soon be time for a cleansing cleavers infusion (more on this in March).
And the mighty elf cup! So vibrant in her red suit - my daughter loves to paint her lips in a little red fungi dust. ✨🍄
When you are next out and about, slow down and see what you notice. What birds can you hear? What shoots and buds can you see?
Here are a few images for you to enjoy. 💚
