January

What does January speak to you?

For me, there are two opposing qualities - with one foot in the water to symbolise flow and something new, and the other foot firmly on the land, to remind of staying grounded so as not to get swept off ones feet.

Although there are murmurings in the land of emergence and growth, nature is quietly at rest.

On the surface - she is still and calm, slow and steady.

Yet beneath, she is busy preparing for action come Spring.

This represents how I feel and what we can all embrace - on the surface, in our bodies, we remain slow, warm and ensure we nourish ourselves with warming, wholesome foods and teas, slow movement and plenty of rest.

Inside, we can reflect and contemplate and dream - what seeds can we sow now that will be ready to bloom in a few months?

Here are a few things that January has inspired:

  • Journalling.

  • Creating dream pillows from lavender and mugwort and hops.

  • Making and creating - art, baking, cooking, singing, getting into the flow state.

  • Lighting candles and enjoying hot baths with essential oils.

  • Spending a whole morning in bed or taking an afternoon nap.

  • Walking in nature and noticing what birds are singing loudest? How is the earth responding? What is the sky whispering?

And then we can return home for hot tea and toast and curl up by the fire to make a nest.
